Fish Projects
Swansea Fish Photo Shoot
First run in July 2017, this is an opportunity to gather information on the huge variety of fish that make their home in Swansea Channel. Divers are invited to join in a fun (and slightly competitive) activity to document fish species in 'The Channel' on the day. The activity continues to be run annually.
Swansea Fish Species Album 1 15 July 2017 contains all 84 species recorded on the day.
Swansea Fish Photo Shoot II 1 July 2018 contains 69 species submitted.
Swansea Fish Photo Shoot III 21 July 2019 contains 69 species submitted
Swansea Fish Photo Shoot IV 2 August 2020 contains 64 species submitted
Swansea Fish Photo Shoot V 28 August 2022 contains 47 species submitted
Swansea Fish Photo Shoot VI 16 July 2023 contains 76 species
Port Stephens Shark, Seahorse/Pipefish, Tropical Fish and Redmap Census May 2016
Divers participated in a fish census, broadly similar to the seaslug census (participants go for a dive or snorkel, take photos of fish, and submit them). A limited section of fish species were the focus: tropical fish and Redmap species, also records of sharks and seahorses/pipefish. The aim is to build knowledge on tropical species who visit Port Stephens.
Targeted Fish Surveys are one way to build your fish identification knowledge both above and underwater.
